Today 32 of us gathered in the car park of the British Queen public house at Meldreth for our 5 mile walk. We started off by admiring the wooden sculptures in the grounds of the pub. Following the River Mel (which is a chalk stream) we stopped to look at the Topcliffe Water Mill which dates back to 1736. This was once owned by St Thomas’ Hospital London. The second water mill was Sheene Mill, Melbourn, this is now a restaurant. At Stockbridge meadows we saw the springs of the River Mel.
