Today 27 of us ventured into Essex, Sewards End for our 5.7 mile walk. In the 11th century monks from the Saffron Walden Abbey (now Audley End House) were granted 60 acres of land to farm by Geoffrey de Mandeville, Lord of the Manor of Saffron Walden. With the Dissolution of the monasteries in 1531 by Henry the 8th clearing out the monks. Plots of land were sold off to create the village we see today. In 2014 the Tour de France cycle race passed through the village. Eddie was our “Peloton” Leader for this walk.
