The weather was perfect, sunny, but not too hot for our 5 Mile walk from Hatley St George. 19 members attended. Our leaders were Gill and John. Gill informed us that the village got its name from the St George family that lived there from the 12th – 17th centuries. In the 17th century the land was passed to Sir George Downing. Downing Street in London is named after him. The famous cricketer W.G. Grace once played on the green where we had our lovely picnic lunch.
