At 10.15 a.m. 34 of us gathered at the Village Hall in Clavering, Essex for a 5.5-mile walk.  Lesley and Alan joined us a guest walker’s. Peter gave us a brief talk about the village – it takes is name from the place that “Clover Grows”. The astronomer Charles Green and  mathematician William Wales lived in the village and they sailed with Captain James Cook on his voyages to the South Pacific Ocean in 1768. Our leaders today were Denis and Eddie. They took us out to the village of Arkesden – and then on to the Clavering Lakes which is now a fishing club. A member of the fishing club showed us a 12lb carp fish which he had caught.
