Sandon Walk

On Bank Holiday Sunday 30 of us met up at the pretty village of Sandon in Hertfordshire. Our leaders were Eileen and Ian. The walk was through undulating countryside with paths across pasture and cultivated land and newly re-wilded areas. Eileen took us down towards Tichney Wood and the nature reserve, then to Notley Green, mostly following the Chain Walk long-distance footpath to Kelshall church and then finally back to Sandon for a picnic lunch. The village in 2016 hit the head-lines – as they had a goose known as Grumpy Gertie that lived in the telephone box. But sadly the body of Grumpy Gertie was found dead in the village pond.
